FAMILY : Zingiberaceae
     
COMMON NAME : Torchlily, Torch ginger, red ginger lily
     
LOCAL NAME : Kantan (M), Kechala (Ib.) Keong ta (C)
     
PREPARATION : Flowering bud and half ripe fruiting shoots are employed by Malay to flavour curries, laksa and mee rebus. The Chinese uses it for flavouring purpose.
     
TRADITIONAL USES : To alleviate ear ache and cleaning wounds.
