PLANTING

Land Preparation

1. Field

  • Plough and loosen soils to 15-22 cm deep
  • Prepare beds with 1.2 cm lenght and 25 cm height. The lenght of beds is depend on the area conditions.
  • Spacing between beds - 30cm.
  • Mixed 50 kg chicken dung for 100 m sq area.

2. Pot Planting

  • Use mixed soil (3:1:1) - (Soil:Organic:Sand)
  • Put the mixed soil in the pot up to 5 cm from the surface

Planting

1. Field

  • Plant 2 seeds in a 2.5 cm hole
  • Spacing - 60 cm x 60 cm
  • 15 g seeds for 100 m sq area
  • Leave 1 plant each hole after 10 days planting

2. Pot Planting

  • Plant 2 seeds in a pot to 2.5 cm deep
  • Leave 1 plant each pot after 2 weeks planting

  • Dried grass, chaff

Stake Preparation

1. Field

  • The stake is built using 2 m stick. Place the stick slanting and opposite to each other and tie the top part.
  • Place another sticks on top of the slanting stake horizontally in order to join them together.

Watering

Twice a day if not raining.

Manuring

1. Field

  • NPK Blue Special 12:12:17:2 - 10 kg for 100 m square area
  • 3 times application: 2nd, 4th and 6th weeks after planting.

2. Pot Planting

  • Broadcast 1 tea spoon or 5 gm NPK Blue Special per pot every week.

Weeding

  • Control the weed from time to time.

PEST AND DISEASE CONTROL

Pest / Disease   Control
Leaf beetle   Spray using 0.1% a.i. Carbaryl
Aphid   Spray pesticide such as malathion 0.1% a.i.
Downy mildew   Spray using benomyl 0.025% a.i.

HARVESTING

1. Field

  • Cucumber can be harvested 7-8 weeks after transplanting
  • Fruits with 15 to 20 cm lenght
  • Alternate day within a month
  • 200 kg - 300 kg expected yield for 100 meter square area
  • Gross income: RM200 - RM300 @ RM1.00/kg.
