LAWAS: The 1Azam tool kit programe is part of the government’s holistic approach in raising the living standard of the low-income groups by empowering them economically.
Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong said the other programmes are varied, including Tekun which provides low-cost and easy financing for those interested in expanding their ventures but lack the resources.
He said this at the closing ceremony of 1Azam training programme and Phase 15 of tool presentation at Giatmara Lawas recently. Also present at the function were heads of government departments and agencies, and 17 participants who were selected for a tailoring course organised by Giatmara Poverty Eradication Programme.
The MP also urged those in Kampung Awat-Awat, Kampung Punang and Kuala Lawas to boost coastal tourism in their respective areas by promoting fishing, culture and historical attractions.
Henry also called for a tourism drive in the Tagal villages in Merapok, to promote Merarap Hotsprings and Da’ Sango in Ulu Trusan .
On BR1M, he urged those who are eligible, including those who are still single, to check with Lawas District Office to ensure that their names are on the list.
He said this programme is unique to the country and reflects the government financial management capacity in developing the nation.
“There is no reason for the people to cast aside a responsible government which help them and reach out to the young generations, for a better life, “ he said..
Earlier, Northern Sarawak Zone Giatmara facilitator Saidi Idris said the programme was tailored for those in e-Kasih list provided by Lawas District Office.
The opportunities and training provided to participants will enable them to serve in their respective areas while providing a pathway out of poverty.
“This is manifestation of a caring government assisting the poor to succeed with their own efforts,” he said.
