Field Preparation

1. Field

• Plough and loosen the soil to 15 - 22 cm deep.
• Prepare the beds with 1.2 m (4 ft) in width, 22-30 cm in height. The lenght of the beds is depends on the area condition.
• Between the beds - 45 cm.
• Mixed 25 kg treated chicken dung for 50 m square area

2. Pot planting

• Mixed soil: 3:1:1 (soil:chicken dung/compost:sand)
• Put the mixed soil in the pot up to 5 cm from the surface

Preparing plant

1.Field

• Prepare nursery box 45 cm x 22 cm x 10 cm.
• Put mixed soil (3:1:1) in the nursery box
• Plant 5 g seeds in the box in row and cover the seeds with a very thin soil layer
• Planting distance - 5 cm x 2 cm
• Water the plant twice a day
• Avoid direct sun and over rain
• Transplanting after 3-4 weeks planting
• Expose the plant to the sun for 3-4 days before transplanting

Planting

1. Field

• Transplanting after 6 weeks planting
• Wet the nursery box before pull out the plant.
• Planting distance - 90 cm x 150 cm

2. Pot planting

• Sow directly 3-4 seeds in a pot in 2-5 cm deep. Leave 1 plant each pot after 2 weeks planting.

MAINTENANCE

Mulching

1. Field

• Use dried grass or coconut frond.

2. Pot planting

• Use dried grass.

Weeding

• Weeding commonly done manually using hoe, weed cutter and hand (in the pot).

PEST AND DISEASE CONTROL

HARVESTING

1. Field

• Harvest after 8 weeks transplanting to the field.
• Harvest in 3-4 days
• Estimated yield from 50 m square area is 100 - 200 kg.

2. Pot planting

• Harvesting can be done after 12 weeks planting. Estimated yield is 0.8 to 15 kg per pot.
