KUCHING, April 10: The 540-metre agricultural road upgrading work around the Lundu area will benefit residents in 58 local villages.

Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang said the development project was implemented through funds from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).

According to him, the project is believed to be able to pave the way for local residents to cultivate their own land as an initiative to increase family income.

“All the villages were given and there are 58 villages so I have not left any villages for these farming roads.

“I can’t give them pineapples, peppers and coffee because there are too many, but we will open the way for them to grow their own,” he explained.

He said this when met by the media after the Handover Ceremony of the Participation Confirmation Letter for the Bumiputera Customary Rights (HAB) Land Development Project in the Raya area, Lundu at the Kampung Selampit Multipurpose Hall in Lundu on Thursday.

The project includes works to upgrade agricultural roads along approximately 540 meters which is expected to provide great benefits to the plantation operators in the area.

The effort aims to improve local agricultural infrastructure facilities, thus supporting the economic activities of the villagers.
