SARIKEI : The Sarikei Pineapple and Fruit Festival, which drew its curtain today, received an extraordinary response throughout its organization for the past two weeks.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said the success of the event proved the unity and cooperation among the residents as well as the high commitment of the organizing committee who made it a success.
In fact, he said, he was very excited when he saw visitors not only liven up the atmosphere but also participating in the program provided by the organizers.
"I was informed that this festival has been visited by more than 100,000 visitors and this is quite a large number," he said.
He said this in the text of a speech read by his representative, Anthony Tan, when officiating the adjournement ceremony, here, yesterday.
Tiong Sii said, Sarikei division is nicknamed as the food basket of Sarawak which can be promoted as the Agropolis Center for the Central Zone Region as well as the destination of choice for visitors through the concept of agro tourism through the organization of festivals.
In fact, he said, it is in line with the objective of the festival which aims to promote Sarikei which is rich in agricultural products.
"In addition, it aims to strengthen harmony and unity among the multi-racial community as well as improve the socio-economics of the people through entrepreneurial activities, sales and product promotion.
"In fact, the concept of collaboration and practicing smart partnership with strategic partners is not only more effective but also saves on organizing costs," he said.
He added that through direct involvement in the festival, all agencies can not only support the people but also carry out their responsibilities more effectively.
"It also gives them the opportunity to get to know each other and further, facilitate the achievement of the set work targets while forming a strong team," he said.
