KUCHING : Graduates from the Sarawak Agricultural Institute (IPS) are advised to venture into entrepreneurship and set their mind that the skills they acquired are not just for working and get a salary.

Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Stephen Rundi Utom said, instead, they should utilize the skills acquired while studying at IPS by running agricultural enterprises or agro-based industries.

"I call for today's graduates to work together and contribute in improving our food security and achieving Sarawak's aspiration of becoming a high-income agro community by 2030.

"I believe most of the graduates today have family land that can be cultivated with agricultural enterprises or agro-based industries.

"Opportunities are right in front of your eyes and it's up to you to act proactively, establish yourself and become a competitive person or continue to be in your comfortable zone," he said.

He said this in his speech which was read by Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail at the 18th IPS Convocation Ceremony, Sarawak Department of Agriculture at the Penview Convention Centre, here, today.

He also called on all agencies under the Sarawak Department of Agriculture to complement each other and work with IPS to identify graduates who are eligible to be participants in the Sarawak Government's agricultural development projects.

"In addition to being able to contribute to the increase in produce production and further guarantee the security of the state's food security, the National Agro-Food Policy 2.0 and the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030," he said.

At the same time, he reminded students not to miss out on learning technology-related knowledge and skills such as digital marketing, robotics and data analysis in line with the development of Industry Revolution 4.0.
