SCIENTIFIC : Eryngium foetidum L.
   
FAMILY : Apiaceae
   
COMMON NAME : Spiny coriander, black benny, recao, fitweed
   
LOCAL NAME : Ketumbar java (M), Daun sup (Ib., Bid.), Udu munuk (Kel.)
     
PREPARATION : Fresh leaves used in salads, Malaysian rice dishes and flavouring for food. It is often adopted by the Chinese as substitute for coriander.
   
TRADITIONAL USES : To alleviate fever, chills, nausea, diarrhoea, diabetes and convulsions.
