Kapit Divisional Agriculture Office has been formed in 1960s which was located at Jalan Airport before moved to Kapit State Complex. There are three districts under this division; Kapit, Song and Belaga and 2 sub districts; Nanga Merit and Sungai Asap.
Most of the inhabitants of Kapit Division are involved in agriculture and agriculture-related activities for their daily need (subsistence). Their other possible source of income is extraction of timber and coal.
Kapit Division is one the areas in Sarawak which produces potentially lucrative local fruits such as Dabai, Issau and Durian. The division is also famous as the source of several indigenous inland fish species such as Empurau, Tengadak dan Semah.
The division is also well-known for its Pua Kumbu, an indigenous hand-woven textile product. Woven Pua Kumbu fabric and designs have been promoted locally as well as abroad with encouraging results.
